Sustainability and Appropriate Technologies
The world is changing, even in Bocas, and the local lifestyle will have to change with it. One of our passions is to help make steer this change in a sustainable and healthy direction. This is why the original purpose of the project was reforestation; the property used to be a cattle farm and now has over 5000 hardwood trees growing on it.
But more immediate measures are needed to make life in the area sustainable. For example, in the past, locals built their own boats by carving out rainforest trees. This is no longer sustainable. New skills must be learned and techniques be used to build and maintain boats locally. The same applies to construction and farming techniques. We welcome visitors with experience in this area, and stipends are available for them.
