There are dozens of possibilities for day trips:
hikes in the jungle, ocean kayaking, river kayaking, surfing, diving, snorkeling, fishing, visiting remote communities and farms, horseback riding...
Most trips are by boat and are organized by the community. Our local friends know all of the hidden gems!
Learn about the rainforest
Tropical rainforest is a different world -- nature at her strongest, wildest, and strangest. Even after years of spending time in the area, I still learn something new every day. Bocas del Toro has a surprising degree of biodiversity for being so easily accessible, and there is a Smithsonian research station in town.
On a more practical level, it's fun to learn about the enormous variety of tropical fruit and vegetables, how to grow them, where to find them -- and how to prepare and eat them.
